Salaam and welcome!
I’ve been noticing International City popping up more and more recently. But not because of Dragon Mart.
Chinese, Uyghur, Korean, and Japanese spots are popping up alllllll over the community. From casual hot pot joints to premium-feeling sushi spots.
International City itself generally flies under the radar. It’s very walkable, very quiet, very affordable, and of course, very safe (you’re in the UAE, after all). All of these ingredients are combining to create this incredible mini-food scene which I want to explore.
As always, here are your weekend plans:
🍽 Eat This
Kagura Japanese Restaurant, International City
After struggling to find parking (International City has way too many cars and way too few parking spaces), I strolled over to Kagura with a friend. The restaurant boasts private rooms with sunken floor seating.
The sushi, ramen, katsu curry, and passionfruit mocktail were all excellent. I’m now deciding whether to head straight back or try a new spot in International City.
☕ Drink This
Honey’s Bakerhouse, Liwan
This place is so small, I almost walked past it. But then I noticed the La Marzocco espresso machine inside, and I sprinted inside.
My Cortado was 19AED, and it was great. Fruity specialty beans and a good texture on the milk. Their cookies looked good, but I’m watching my calories, okay?

Mleiha Rock, Mleiha Desert
Mleiha rock is many things. A camping spot, hiking trail, a set of caves, an archeological site, and above all, a fantastic spot to see the sunset or sunrise. It’s a place where the red sands of Sharjah literally meet the rocky mountains.

❤️ Take the Kids Here
Happy Fun, Mushrif Park
Carousels, slides, and bouncy castles within the massive Mushrif National Park. The kids will go absolutely insane, I tell you.
